Five Locations Serving Montgomery County

CLUBHOUSE

The base for all Hedwig House programs is a network of five "clubhouses", welcoming, friendly and comfortable facilities which "members" visit voluntarily. The clubhouse offers both a meeting place and an opportunity for socialization and fellowship.

Clubhouse operations, programs, services and maintenance are the result of mutual efforts of staff and members working side-by-side. Planning and working together allows members to share responsibility for the daily food service, clerical work and building upkeep.

The suggestions, feedback, individual talents and collective work of members are needed and highly valued. Member input is very often the source of ideas for new or improved services.

VOCATIONAL

Member working together in Clubhouse work groups develop a positive attitude toward work and improved work habits. Those choosing to explore employment receive individual job counseling, giving them an opportunity to establish employment goals, identify and discuss concerns. Staff assist members to find jobs based on individual abilities.

Additional groups aid in sharpening job search and interview skills. Regular “vocational dinners” with current job candidates and alumni allow returning, employed members to socialize, share experiences and encourage members just beginning job searches.

Hedwig House sponsors a Catering Service and Lawn Care Service. Members and staff work together to perform contracted jobs allowing members to derive income from hands-on participation. For many it is a first small paycheck which may lead to increased self-confidence and competitive employment.

All Hedwig House members are eligible for vocational services. Some services are funded through the Office of Vocational Rehabilitation and members are helped with necessary applications.

Supportive Employment Program

HOUSING SUPPORT

A comfortable, safe, affordable place to call “home” is important to everyone. Hedwig House provides Housing Support services to help members in many program-leased apartments throughout Montgomery County or in the member’s own living arrangements.

Unlike many residential programs which are transitional and time-limited, Hedwig House invites members to make the apartment their “home” as long as they wish.

Since shared housing is often a necessity for those on low, fixed incomes, Hedwig House will assist in introducing roommates and can help with start-up costs, furniture and a variety of ongoing support services.

Residents are responsible for their own rents and living expenses, encouraging self-esteem and empowerment. Support, counseling and assistance from qualified staff are available as needed.
